SAI Microbiologist Analyst Awarded PAACB Certification

June 7, 2005

Scientific Analytical Institute, LLC (SAI) is pleased to announce the certification of Palmer Hines, Microbiology Laboratory Manager for SAI, as Spore Analyst through the Pan American Aerobiology Certification Board (PAACB). The PAACB is a non-profit organization founded to address the need for verification of identification skills of analysts involved in quantifying airborne spores and pollen. Certification is conferred to analysts who demonstrate a specific level of knowledge of aerobiology, and competency in microscopic identification.

SAI strongly supports PAACB’s belief that it is important to certify the individuals who perform the identifications and sample analyses as this is the best way to ensure the quality of analyses. The PAACB program goes beyond assurance of overall conformity and focuses on the quality of the individual analysts. In contrast, the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) program accredits laboratories as a whole by assuring adherence to general and international standards. Additionally, PAACB is the only established program that evaluates the ability of each analyst to correctly identify spores and pollen as would be encountered on “real-world” samples for direct microscopic examination.

“On behalf of SAI, we commend Palmer Hines for this achievement. Palmer has successfully become the first certified spore analyst in North Carolina and surrounding states including South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. While participation in AIHA’s proficiency and accreditation programs is important, we believe that individual certification through PAACB ensures our clients an added measure of quality that cannot be found at most other laboratories.” - Nathaniel Durham, Laboratory Director, SAI.

As the Southeast’s leader in mold, asbestos, and lead testing, SAI provides quality analysis by experienced analysts with unmatched dependability and top-tier customer service. SAI provides expert laboratory support for every project 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
